Sustainable eco furniture

Sustainable eco furnitureTo give you a sense of the history of sustainable eco furniture here are some of the major landmarks already set by big businesses in eco-furniture making. In 1999 Herman Miller Inc. took into account a products environmental impact and created a chair that had far fewer parts than normal. The chair was also made of 96% recyclable materials.

Another company, Steelcase, opened a $25 million plant marking a major turning point for sustainable eco furniture. This was the first factory ever to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards. Almost 25% of the factory was built with recycled materials. In addition water-based wood finishes brought down toxic emissions by approximately 70%.

Sustainable eco furniture took another major step forward when desks made with wheatboard surface were purchased for the U.S. Green Building Council. The maker of the desks also renovated its headquarters in 2008 and use recycled materials from teardown. The future of eco-furniture looks more and more promising as consumers become more conscious of their carbon footprint.
