Unless
you are well versed on eco issues, it can be somewhat of a challenge
to understand what exactly makes a piece of furniture “eco friendly
furniture.” A few of the criteria are listed below:
• Use of alternative materials – Whereas most furniture
is made of wood, there are some items of eco friendly furniture that
could be made of different types of substances. Using something other
than wood shows that the manufacturer is not cutting down these resources
from nature for the purpose of creating furniture.
• Certification – Just because a piece
of furniture might be made of wood, this does not necessarily qualify
it as being something other than eco friendly furniture. If the furniture
comes with a certification from the Forest Stewardship Council, this
means that the council deems the way that the manufacturer cuts down
and re-plants trees to be an acceptable way to redeem the supply they
take.
• Few extras – While some people prefer
a nice, plush couch some people believe that eco friendly furniture
cannot include things like extra padding with them. Some people feel
that eco friendly furniture is fairly simple in style as well as substance.
They do not believe that more than the bare minimum of wood, vinyl,
fabric or leather should be used.
If it is important to you to find eco friendly furniture, you may want
to consider the preceding criteria when looking into which kinds of
furniture to buy.
